5 Great Parks and Playgrounds in San Antonio

We are lucky in San Antonio to have so many great playgrounds and parks to explore. From swings to slides, to climbing walls and water features, San Antonio's parks and playgrounds keep my kids active, are a great place to meet old friends (and make new! friends), and they're FREE!

I often get asked what our favorite playgrounds are, so I thought I'd share here with you my family's picks for our top five playgrounds and parks to visit in San Antonio.

Brackenridge Park -


Brackenridge Park

What we love about Brackenridge Park: 

Brackenridge Park has so much to do!  WIth plenty of tables, shade, playgrounds and views of the river, you are sure to find a perfect picnic location.  Brackenridge is also home to the San Antonio Zoo and Japanese Tea Garden; both of which are great spots to take the kids and explore.  Surrounding the park, you will find Kiddie Park (with rides for young children), San Antonio's Botanical Garden, and the Witte Museum!  You will find plenty of things to do indoors and outside at Brackenridge Park!

Cathedral Rock Park

What we love about Cathedral Rock Park: 

Cathedral Rock Park is a great place to "escape" the business of the city and enjoy a nice stroll through wooded trails.  This park is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing and beautiful nature walk right here in the middle of San Antonio! Cathedral Rock Park offers both walking and biking trails, reaching nearly 2 miles. Take a break and take the family out to Cathedral Rock Park for a nice stroll or bike ride!

What we love about Hemisfair Park: 

In the heart of Downtown San Antonio, Hemisfair Park is a beautiful and lively park full of fun and activities to keep your family busy all day long! Hemisfair Park offers a large playground area, games like chess & checkers, water play area, sand play, and more.  There are also a number of food vendors and local shops surrounding the park that sell food and drinks.  Hemisfair is our favorite park in to sit back and take in the beauty of the city of San Antonio and enjoy exploring the nearby shops and more in the beautiful downtown area!

Pearsall Park

What we love about Pearsall Park: 

Pearsall Park is by far our number one, favorite park in San Antonio.  With several large play areas, zipline, skate park, workout area, trails, and of course an AWESOME water play area, this park is the perfect place to go for the day! Pack a picnic, swimsuits, sunblock, load up the bikes, and be ready for hours of fun at your new favorite park!  There are also always food trucks and vendors available selling nachos, fresh fruit, ice cream, snow-cones, cold beverages and more!   

Amenities at Pearsall Park: 

  • FAMILY FUN ZONE 
    - Two (2) splash pads - Open 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. (Closed daily for scheduled maintenance: 11:30am-12:30pm, 2:30pm-3:30pm, 5:30pm-6:30pm)
    - Two (2) basketball courts
    - Twenty (20) picnic tables
    - Two (2) shade canopies equipped with picnic tables
    - Two hundred and fifteen (215) parking spaces
    - One (1) 40’ x 80’ event pavilion area
    - Skate Park (largest skate park offered in the City!)
